Today s show is Chalcites maculatus.

Today’s appearance is the Chalcites maculatus. Compared with the first few cuckoos introduced this week, the cuckoo’s plumage is more brilliant, and its metallic green plumage makes it blingling. Male and female birds have some distinct features which are easy to distinguish. Male birds have green heads and female birds have Brown heads and necks. The lower body of Cuijin cuckoo is thick and transverse, like wearing a striped shirt.
Non-reproductive period usually occurs in the dense evergreen forests in the lower part of the mountain area. Two or three pairs of trees forage together in dense branches with dense leaves on the top of tall trees, which is not easy to find. The breeding season is between the mountain shrubs. Flying is fast and powerful. The sound is like three successive whistling sounds, each rising rapidly.
The food of Cuijin cuckoo is almost entirely insects. As for the amount of food, bird expert Li Guiyuan and others have fed a young bird, which can eat more than 80 white butterfly larvae, a small number of caterpillars and spiders a day.
