Thousand Lanterns Ancient Town without Thousand Lanterns

# Kunshan Grand Festival of Baixi#There is an ancient town of thousand lights in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, but there are not one thousand lights. According to Wu Yue’s records in Spring and Autumn Period, Qianduan was originally named Qiandun, and Wu Wang Shoumeng built a beacon tower on Qinwang Mountain west of Qianduan to resist the sea invaders. The 1000th beacon tower was built right here, so it was called Qianduan (Figure 9 is said to be the site of the beacon tower).
In 1910, Qianduan was renamed Qianduan in the second year of Xuantong in Qing Dynasty. It is said that because the earth mound is covered with rubes, it has become "rubes mound", rubes root can be used as red dye, can also be used as medicine, and has since been written into the name of the town.
During the period of the people’s commune movement, perhaps for the sake of simplifying strokes, convenience in understanding and writing, as well as for the consideration of folk taboos, in April 1966, with the approval of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Committee, Qidun was finally named "Thousand Lanterns". The homonym of "Dun" and "Deng" in local dialect is more likely to arouse people’s reverie.[奥特曼]# Reading City# Qiandang Ancient Town, Suzhou
