A few days ago, we talked about the relationship between killer whales and great white sharks. What about the relationship between lions and leopards?
According to the statistics of lion-leopard interaction records, the scientists concluded that leopard accounts for 3% of the known causes of death of lion cubs (n = 121).
Lions account for 22% (n = 152) of the known causes of death of leopard pups and 23% (n = 44) of deaths of independent leopards (> 2 years old).
The lions killed by leopards were all small lions less than 7 months old. The average age of the leopards killed by lions was 2.71 (+0.75 years old) (range = 0.08-16.59 years old, covering almost all ages). Although most of the leopards were killed by lions, both male and female lions had singly killed adult leopards, especially in retaliatory acts. Although there are some pictures or videos of the leopard and lion escaping from danger on the Internet, it does not mean that the leopard can probably save its life in the face of lions or lions who are intense killers without climbing the tree.
