Recently, the 50th anniversary of Apollo’s landing on the moon has been celebrated in various ways. Let’s also talk about it.Let’s have a cool edge of knowledge.
All the rocks that Apollo collected from the moon were used by NASA for scientific research, and some were taken by the U.S. government as gifts to the governments of States and countries in the Federation. There’s only one exception – it’s embedded in the colored windows of the National Cathedral in Washington.
This color window is designed and manufactured to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the lunar landing. The color tone matches the style of the whole church window, but the whole line and pattern have some futuristic feeling. The moon stone was embedded in the middle, very thin and small.
The designer was Rodney Winfield, and Francis B. Sayre, the dean of the church, contributed a lot to this. Although the church was generally conservative, he belonged to the progressives at that time and even did a lot of social activities. (Even now, aerospace and religious undertakings are very difficult to achieve…) Collins, one of the three Apollo 11 lunar landers from Washington, also contributed a lot to this. He later said, "Everything in the church commemorates the past, and only this window commemorates the future. "
