Wang Yuanqi, one of the four famous painters in the early Qing Dynasty, is the largest green landscape in Shanghai Museum. The painting of Du Fu’s Poetry Intention Axis is 3.2 meters high, which is the largest painting by Wang Yuanqi Cunshi. When Wang Yuanqi was in Beijing, he painted the poems of Emperor Kangxi’s imperial calligraphy and Du’s poetry for his colleagues. Because of the imperial calligraphy, it was a rare masterpiece with magnificent scale and deliberate management.
Weng Tonghe once mentioned that this work is one of his favorite treasures. It is a green landscape created according to Du Fu’s poem "thunder sends thousands of peaks and rains, flowers are as fragrant as Baihe Xiang". It is reported that in the summer of 1887, Weng Tonglang saw this picture axis in Ruguzhai, Liulichang, and was astonished to be a "grand sight". Five days later, he bought it together with two albums of Dong Qichang and Dai Benxiao at a price of 32. Weng Tonghe mentioned in Wang Yi’s Wanli Tu of the Yangtze River in the Qing Dynasty that some people wanted to trade the volume with heavy gold, and he replied that "everything else is possible, only this painting and the huge Lutai painting can not be abandoned in this life". "Lutai Huge" refers to this "Du Fu Poetry Intention Axis".
Du Fu’s Poetry Intention Axis will fill in the blank of Wang Yuanqi’s calligraphy and painting research in terms of content, scale and style.
Today, it is launched in Shanghai Bo. [Laixi Huabao-Old Tibetan Painting Exhibition of Weng’s Family]
