Tragopan caboti.

The yellow-bellied pheasant (Tragopan caboti) is named "yellow-bellied pheasant" because of its yellow abdominal feathers. It is also known as "horned pheasant" and "spitting bird". Because & quot; Shou & quot; and & quot; longevity & quot; homonym, implying longevity and auspiciousness, is our country’s famous & quot; auspicious bird & quot;. In the Tang Dynasty, Kuizhou Tuhu bird was listed as a tribute. The Tang Dynasty poet Liu Yuxi wrote in his Tuhu bird ci: & quot; there are birds flying across the mountains, and the sky is bright. The Yue people meet occasionally and surprisingly, because of their name Tubo Jiangnan knows. & When the male is in estrus, two turquoise-blue meat horns stick out on the top of his head and a red-blue color meat skirt is displayed under his throat, which is particularly enchanting.
Yellow-bellied pheasant is relatively bulky, not good at flying, timid and slow-witted. When it is in distress, it will stand still as a wooden pheasant. It does not cry like a baby until the danger is near. It plunges into the weeds and bushes and exposes its body to the outside. It is called "dull chicken" by local villagers.
Yellow-bellied pheasant is an endangered pheasant endemic to China. It is a state-level protected animal. It only distributes in southeastern China (southwestern Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, northern Guangdong and northeastern Guangxi). Before the 1980s, it was considered extinct in the wild until Zhuge Yang, a professor of Zhejiang University, discovered the species in Wuyanling Mountain, Taishun, in 1981. Before that, Taishun residents did not know that the yellow-bellied pheasant was a rare bird, but only regarded it as a common "pheasant" hunting. Due to the loss, shrinkage and fragmentation of typical habitats, the endangered situation of yellow-bellied pheasant is still very serious. At present, Wuyanling National Nature Reserve is the highest population density area of wild yellow-bellied pheasant known in China. It is also the special nature reserve and the only conservation base of Chinese yellow-bellied pheasant.
Yellow-bellied pheasant is about 50 (female) to 65 (male) centimeters long; male bird has chestnut brown upper body, full of light yellow spots with black edges; head top black, with black and chestnut red crest; black-brown with brown macula of flying feathers; inhabits subtropical coniferous broad-leaved mixed forest at altitudes of 600 to 2000 meters; natural enemies are mainly blue weasel, yellow-bellied weasel, Leopard cat and flower. Beaver, woodcarving, eagle, jay, King brocade snake and so on. Female birds lay eggs from March to April every year, one every other day. There are 3 to 4 in each litter, occasionally 6, sometimes only 1 in a year. In most cases, yellow-bellied pheasant breeds only once a year, and the success rate of field breeding is very low, only about 10%.
