This is the residue of a supernova explosion named SNR J0509.5-6731. The red part of the outer ring is the hydrogen cloud captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, while the blue, green and pink masses inside are X-ray images taken by Chandra Observatory. In this image synthesized by Judy Schmidt, images taken at intervals of about 10 years show that the slag is diffusing outward.
