The location was found on the hill in the northwest of the village of Nun County in the province of Shandong Province. "Qi" comes from Dai language, meaning "horse". In 1965, two human tooth fossils were discovered, dating back to about one million and seven hundred thousand years ago, thus pushing the earliest human fossils discovered in China about one million years ago.
