Real Melon Eaters

According to the 2018 data released by FAO, the output of watermelon in China is 79.27 million tons. Apart from the export of 30,000 tons, the rest is 70% of the global total of watermelon stations eaten by themselves. And that’s not enough. China imported about 230,000 tons. Therefore, as far as the output and consumption of watermelon are concerned, China is absolutely the first in the world. Even if the second to tenth place are all added up, it only reaches about 25% of the consumption of watermelon in China.
Watermelon, like carrot, is not a specialty of China. The mainstream view of watermelon origin is Africa. It is a wild plant of Cucurbitaceae. Later, it gradually developed into edible watermelon through people’s cultivation. It was introduced into China from the Western Regions in about the fifth century A.D. Xu Guangqi, a scientist of the Ming Dynasty, wrote in his "Agricultural Administration Complete Book" that "Watermelon is the name of the Western Regions because it grows out of the Western Regions". Although the origin of watermelon is not in China, the Chinese people are the main cultivator and consumer of watermelon.
