Bronze Shellfish Storage of Siniu Gold Knight in Ancient Dian Kingdom
No. 10 Tomb of Shizhaishan, Jinning
Shellfish storage is a unique bronze ware in ancient Yunnan. Most of them are used to store shellfish coins, which is equivalent to today’s money storage tanks. At the same time, shellfish storage is also an important device to symbolize the status of authority and worship ancestors.
The shell is 50 centimeters high and 25.3 centimeters in diameter. It is a typical type of cylindrical shellfish receptacle with a girdle waist. Each side of the waist is decorated with a tiger-shaped ear and the tiger climbs upward. The decoration on the cover is divided into two layers. Four bulls with long and curved horns were carved and cast in anticlockwise direction. Inside a cylinder, decorated with the image of a knight riding a horse, the head of the horse is raised, the knight wears a sword, and the whole body is gold.
