# Literary and historical lens#From 22 to 26 May 1963, the African Summit was held in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, attended by leaders or representatives of 31 independent African countries. The meeting adopted the Charter of the Organization of African Unity and designated 25 May, the signing ceremony, as "Africa Liberation Day", or "Africa Day" for short, as a symbol of the struggle for independence and freedom of African countries.
