From 1949 to 1953, the Chief of the National Day parade was headed by the Commander-in-Chief of the People’s Liberation Army, and General Zhu served as the chief of the parade for five consecutive times.
In September 1954, major reforms were carried out in the leadership system of national defense. To take the Central Military Commission as the supreme military leading body; to establish the Ministry of National Defense; to abolish the post of Commander-in-Chief of the PLA. From this year on, the head of the National Day parade was replaced by the Minister of Defense. From 1954 to 1959, Peng Dehuai and Lin Biao served as the chief military officers of the National Day parade successively. Peng Dehuai served five consecutive terms, and Lin Biao served only once as the head of the parade.
