Arhat, the self-conscious, is the third class in Mahayana Buddhism, which is lower than Buddha and Bodhisattva, and the highest fruit of practice in Upper Buddhism (Mahayana Buddhism).
Arhats are all pure in body and mind. They have broken their worries of ignorance. They are free from life and death. They have been certified into Nirvana and can be respected and supported by heaven and earth.
The earliest records – quot; sixteen Arhats – quot; the Chinese translation of Buddhist scriptures of names is Xuanzang’s translation of "Memory of the Sayings of Great Arhats and Hard Timidorus". After that, two more people were added, namely, & quot; eighteen Arhats & quot;, but there are different opinions.
