Former Hong Kong. Golden Bauhinia Square 2010/7 shooting
On July 1, 1997, when the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was established, the Central Government presented a bronze statue of Golden Bauhinia to Hong Kong. The bronze statue is placed next to the exhibition center. Facing the sea, the square is also named Golden Bauhinia Square.
The bronze statue, six meters high, is officially named "Bauhinia Flowers Forever Blooming", which implies that Hong Kong will be prosperous forever. The square carries the Chinese flag and the regional flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Every morning, a flag-raising ceremony is held at 8:00 a.m.
At the corner of the square stands a monument to the return of Hong Kong, 20 metres high. It consists of 206 slabs, each representing each year from 1842 to 2047. Six of the round slabs are made of light-colored granite, representing 1842, 1860, 1898, 1982, 1984 and 1990 respectively. The glass rings with built-in lights mark the formal return of Hong Kong in 1997.
