I.M. and Mrs. Pei s Collection Auction

Recently, Christie’s announced that it had been commissioned to auction the collection of I.M. Pei and Mrs. Ailing Lu. The collection will be presented at Autumn Impressionist and Modern Art, Postwar and Contemporary Art, Asian Twentieth Century Art and Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Auctions in Christie’s New York, Hong Kong and Paris.
These collections bring together masterpieces of eastern and Western artists, including masterpieces of famous artists who have intimate relations with Bai, such as Barnett Newman, Jean Dubuffet and Zhao Wuji, as well as Franz Kline, Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi and Willem de Kuning. E Kooning, Henry Moore, Jacques Lipchitz, Xu Shiqi and Noguchi. The total value of the collection is expected to exceed $25 million.
"Parents’collection is a portrait of their lives," said Pei’s daughter, Bellen. They are full of curiosity about the world, and I have many good memories of traveling with them. No matter which country we visit, we will always be welcomed by friends, many of whom are artists, architects, gallery owners or museum curators. They are very respectful and friendly to each other. I remember that every time we visit Paris, we visit Zhao Wuji, whom I call Uncle Wuji, and appreciate his latest paintings. Years later, I remember visiting Venice with Annalee Newman. I loved her very much. She was like a grandmother. She and Barnett Newman, Tony Caro, Noguchi and Pierre and Tana Matisse often visit our house. Mother’s cooking is outstanding, hospitable, always ready to enrich the food to greet guests, father is ready to match wine. They attach great importance to these friends. Even if these friends are far away, they still feel close, because their works are with us everyday, just like they never leave.
