乐生活Hypsignathus monstrosus, also known as Hammer-headed bat, is widely distributed in jungles, mangroves, marshes or palm forests at the edge of rivers in the southwestern equatorial region of Africa. It belongs to the genus Hammerhead, a subfamily of Fox Bats, and is the only extant species of this genus. Its wingspan is 686-970 mm. It is the largest bat in Africa.
This lovely creature is totally unlike the creatures on earth. The male has a very large head and nose. The lovely appearance is impressive, even the winged eyes of the freaks are amazing. Like most other members of the fox bat family, the hammerhead fruit bat is a fruit eater. Its main food is figs. It also eats mangoes, bananas and guavas. Hammerhead fruit bats usually pick the fruit first and then take it to nearby trees to enjoy slowly. They squeeze the juice out and swallow, while the pulp spits out [covering the face].
Hammerhead fruit bats have been hunted and killed by local residents as high-quality cooking ingredients in their country of origin, but their numbers are still large and their survival is not in danger. However, fruit bats (including hammerhead fruit bats, frontal shoulder fruit bats and small-collar fruit bats) of the Fox family are the natural storage hosts of Ebola virus. In Africa, the geographical distribution of Ebola-infected human and non-human primates is consistent with the range of activity of these fruit bats. Fruit bats are a natural source of poison.
