乐生活Gansu Guazhou Story (1)
Starting from Suzhou District of Jiuquan City in the afternoon, I went to Guazhou in the evening and stayed at the hotel after dinner. Search the map, see what landmarks are nearby, and find the West Road Army Memorial Tower. Starting on foot, going in the wrong direction, turning back, it’s already dark when we get here. Here is a public park, walking, dancing and singing local operas. It’s very lively.
The tower is the core building, built in 1988, with the inscription of Marshal Xu Qianqian on the forehead of the tower-quot; the last Memorial Tower of the West Road Army-quot;. In April 1937, Li Xiannian and Cheng Shicai led the left detachment of the West Road Army by nearly a thousand people. After decades of arduous treks, they came out of the snow mountain and entered the territory of Anxi (Guazhou). They fought fiercely with the enemy in the county town, Wangjiatunzhuang, Baidunzi, Hongliuyuan, etc.
The West Route Army is a tragic and sobbing history!
