Cuon alpinus is endemic to the Asian continent.

Cuon alpinus is a unique canine predator in the Asian continent. This slender, unattractive, medium-sized canine animal is now quite rare. Most of the existing population is in India. It has a low popularity in China. Pictures of jackals are often mistaken for wild dogs or foxes. (Several mentally retarded children ran to my microblog this morning to cheer up.) The jackals and hyenas are also very powerful. But in ancient times they were also very common beasts in China. Otherwise, there would not be such a Chinese phrase as "jackal, wolf, tiger and leopard".

An adult jackal usually weighs about 10-20 kilograms, smaller than a coyote in North America. In nature, this heavyweight predator tends to feed on small prey, but jackals are an alien species that specializes in killing large prey. With perseverance, ferocious "digging eyes through anus" and the advantage of team operations, jackals can easily prey on small prey. Even giant pandas and Asian black bears may be buried in jackals.
