Chirp turned a super cute kiwi on the front page yesterday

Suction tweetYesterday, I turned a super cute kiwi on my homepage! It’s so cute, let’s talk about it today!

Kiwis live only on islands in New Zealand, mostly in the day and night, with only a few subspecies active during the day. They mainly feed on insects and fruits. They have poor eyesight, but they have a very sensitive sense of smell. The limbs are strong and can’t fly, but you can actually see very small claws when you pull them apart.

Its eggs are the largest in the world compared with the mother’s eggs. They are ten times as big as ordinary eggs. They have enough nutrients to feed young birds for 80 days. With such a giant, females have almost no room to eat food. Because the eggs are so huge, some scientists believe that the ancestors of Kiwi birds were giant birds, but as time goes on, only their bodies get smaller and smaller.

Kiwi birds used to be the meat source of the Maori people. Their feathers could also be used for clothing. But with the development of farming civilization, uncontrolled killing, and the invasion of foreign species such as cats and dogs, the number of Kiwi birds dropped sharply from 10 million to about 30,000 today. Fortunately, people have begun to actively remedy it.

Finally, let’s talk about a Maori legend about why Kiwi birds don’t have wings. A long time ago, the Maori King of the Forest found that the forest had withered and died because of insect pests on the ground. He was very anxious and asked his brother, the King of the Sky, for help. So the King of the Sky called for birds to live on the ground and destroy pests, but no bird would give up the sky. Then the kiwi came out and said that he was willing to take the task. The King of the Sky said to him, but you will lose your beautiful feathers and be unable to fly any more, and your feet must be strong and strong. Even so, the kiwi said it would. The King of the Forest said, "I will remember your sacrifice and you will be the most respected bird in the forest."

Ps: I am fascinated by this legend. Since you are so sacred and great, how do you still eat them!,Shouldn’t it be like the Indian god cow?
