American Birds: Hawaiian Birds: [Branta sandvicensis Vigors, 1833] is generally considered to have evolved from the black geese that came to the island about 500,000 years ago, just after its formation, and were once on the verge of extinction due to biological invasion and hunting. Fortunately, they are easy to reproduce. Once protected, they are easy to recover. Now, their number has recovered to one tenth of that when Captain Cook discovered Hawaii, about 2,500. Nevertheless, they are still the rarest geese in the world. They are the only island geese in existence, compared with other geese. Categories with degenerated webs on their feet and longer toes to adapt to Hawaii’s rugged volcanic terrain and longer breeding periods, and lower freshwater demand to Kauai, which is not invaded by greyhounds, are the largest number of islands in Hawaii.@ Stephanie hewish@Pardalotus-punctatus
