According to the latest taxonomy of the family Mustelidae proposed in 2018, there are currently eight classifications of Mustelidae, namely:

1. Mustelinae. Members of the weasel subfamily are also known as "weasels" in a narrow sense. They are the smallest of the weasels, but are ferocious active predators. They usually have slender, flexible bodies. Figure 2 represents the weasel (Mustela nivalis).
2. Guloninae. The Mink Bear subfamily was separated from the previous Mink subfamily. Mink bears (wolverines), fishing minks and minks all belong to this subfamily now. Figure 3 represents the mink bear (gulo gulo).
3. Melinae. Badger subfamily is an omnivorous shrew with short stature and good digging ability. It includes two genera, Badger and Pig Badger. Fig. 4 shows Meles meles.
4. Mellivorinae. Only Mellivora capensis (Fig. 5) is an existing species of the Badger subfamily.

6. Helictidinae. The ferret class is a small omnivorous ferret distributed in Asia, sometimes found in urban environments. Figure 7 represents the Chinese ferret (Melogale moschata).
7. Ictonychinae. Aitidae of Africa, also known as Tigermineae or Nestlmineae, is a few small and medium-sized weasels, whose members are mainly distributed in South America and Africa. Figure 8 represents the Ictonyx striatus, which resembles the skunks of the New World and also has odorous chemical weapons, but they are not close relatives.
8. Lutrinae. Otter subfamily is a weasel specially adapted to the aquatic environment, feeding on fish and other aquatic organisms, including all kinds of otters we know as well as sea otters in the ocean. Figure 9 represents Amblonyx cinerea.
